Adjacent columns show new U.S. tariff rates for each country as well as the EU.
In most cases, these rates are about half the rate that the Trump administration claims each country “accuses” the United States
The countdown is not necessarily the only U.S. tariffs these countries will face.
The White House told CNBC’s Eamon Javers on Wednesday that China’s new countdown rate will be added to the current relevant tax of 20%, meaning Beijing’s real tariff rate is 54% under this Trump term.
Trump said his plan will set a 10% benchmark tariff across the board. But, as his chart makes clear, many countries will face higher interest rates.
“We will charge them about half of the charge and have been charging us all the time,” Trump said in a notice at the White House Rose Garden.
“The tariffs will therefore not be a complete countdown,” he said.
But half of the figures include “the total rate of all relevant taxes, non-monetary barriers and other forms of cheating,” he said.
