Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate has confirmed he has been offered a new contract at Anfield which remains unsigned.
While Liverpool have a wave of big names out of contract this summer – Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold all face uncertain futures – Konate is one of two regular starters whose deals expire in 2026, left-back Andy with Robertson. .
Ahead of Tuesday Champions League clash with LilleConnaught confirmed that he had been offered a new contract LiverpoolBut he was less forthcoming when asked if he planned to sign it.
“It’s another conversation,” the 25-year-old said. “I’m really focused on what happens now. We’ll see what happens.”
The Times State Konate’s attitude can rest on Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold. The Frenchman may delay a decision until he has a clearer idea of how the team looks around him, not least because of two potential high-profile departures from his defensive backline this summer.
“Everybody knows Virgil and everybody knows his quality,” Connaught said of his centre-back partner. “For me he is the best, there is no one better than him in this position.
“I learn a lot from him and other players like (Joel) Matip, Joe Gomez and others who don’t play in my position. I never told him but in interviews I always said that I want to be better than him one day. Than and that’s why I work hard to reach this level one day, I think he will be proud.
