Mohamed Salah posts cryptic tweet as contract standoff continues

Mohamed Salah kept the pressure on Liverpool this afternoon by posting a tweet featuring three big name players at the end of the season.

Salah’s tweet contained no words but simply a picture of himself, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, with the trio free to leave Anfield in June.

Salah’s choice of picture is unlikely to be a coincidence and he has continued his public search for a new deal to stay on Merseyside.

No progress, Salah said

The normally media-shy Egyptian has, on more than one occasion, spoken about the fact that no deal has yet been agreed and said again last week that he now expects to depart in five months’ time.

“There is no progress,” he told Sky Sports The possibility of extending his contract. “We are far from any progress. We just need to wait and see.

“The thing on my mind is if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say ‘I was worried or stressed about the contract’?

“Or do you just want to say ‘I had an incredible season’? It’s in my head. If I ever get distracted, I just remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an incredible season.”

Another trophy

Salah said he hopes to win another trophy during his time with Liverpool, who drew 2-2 with Manchester United yesterday and the 32-year-old scored a goal from the penalty spot.

“My motivation this year was to win trophies and that was a big part of winning trophies – especially the Premier League,” Salah added, discussing the squad’s 2018/19 Champions League triumphs led by Arne Slott’s predecessor Jurgen Klopp. and the 2019/20 Premier League.

“Half (that) team is left like me, Trent, Virgil, Alison, Robo (Andy Robertson). It’s important for us to win another trophy before we all go.”
