Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., slams president Donald Trump On Monday night, more than 1,000 people involved in the January 6, 2021 riots were pardoned.

But Pelosi called the move “shameful” and said it was important to remember the “courage” of law enforcement “heroes” who “ensure the survival of democracy.”
Pelosi, who did not attend Trump’s inauguration on Monday, said in a statement: “The president’s actions are outrageous to our justice system and to the heroes who suffered physical scars and emotional trauma while protecting the Capitol, Congress and the Constitution. Insulting.” Posted to X.
“It is shameful that the president has decided to make it one of his top priorities to abandon and betray police officers who risk their lives to prevent attempts to subvert the peaceful transfer of power,” Pelosi said.

The U.S. Department of Justice reported that approximately 140 police officers were attacked during the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. They include law enforcement officers from the U.S. Capitol Police and about 60 officers from the Metropolitan Police Department.

“I’m going to sign pardons on the J6 hostages tonight to get them out,” Trump said during the parade at Capital One Stadium. “I’m going to the Oval Office and we’re going to sign pardons for a lot of people.
So far, judges or juries have convicted about 250 people facing charges for participating in the riots after trials, and more than 1,000 people had pleaded guilty as of January.
