Construction Hill fell for the second time, as the Lost landed the obstacles to William Hill Aintree.
Nicky Henderson’s training favorite suffered a shocking departure in Cheltenham’s championship obstacle last month, but it looks like his trip to Nico de Boinville seems to be excellent this time, despite being trapped behind the horse this time.
When De Boinville turned to challenge, Constitution Hill got everything wrong again, hitting the turf, leaving Lostymouth (5-4) and Wodhooh to fight it, first and foremost Willie Mullins.
Constitution Hill next Ponxtown?
“It’s heartbreaking, and you really can’t believe it,” Henderson said.
“He is indeed the best jump shot you’ve ever seen, but in that vocabulary you would just say it’s a one percent chance to do what he’s done, but he did it twice, which really worries you, but how do you do it, but how can you get it out?
“As Nico said, his whole process was great. On a few obstacles, he walked simply, and that’s what we’ve been trying to get him to do, but when you go to three races and racing, you can’t afford to do that, you have to go, you have to go, you have to go, Nico said he was too early.
“Nico said he was full of running and his words to me were that he actually had where Letomouth wanted her. He was happy with her front and not the back.
“We started talking about (Punchestown) back then. Cheltenham told Nico that we were going to Punchestown instead of here, and he said ‘OK, these obstacles would be more suitable for him’.”
Champion Paul Townend told ITV: “Here, two miles are ideal for her and the competition is ideal for her.”
“The ground was active enough to dry every minute compared to riding in obstacle courses earlier.
“She handled it well. I’ve seen Nico walk away, Constitution Hill, so we can celebrate that.”
