Popular Nigerian musician and performer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba or Tuface, has announced his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia.
Anne and Tufas are one of Nigeria’s most famous celebrity couples. They married in 2012 and have two daughters.
The African Queen singer posted on Instagram that they had been separated for some time and had taken steps to divorce.
The post was later deleted, but 2Baba later posted a video to confirm its content was accurate.
The singer is regarded as one of the pioneers of the Nigerian music scene that is taking the world by storm today, paving the way for musicians such as Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy.
In 2013, the couple had a star-studded wedding that, despite taking place in Dubai, was widely watched in Nigeria.
Although the star announced in 2014 that he would change his name to 2Baba, he is still widely known as Tuface.
News of the separation shocked fans and admirers across the continent as the couple have overcome previous issues and are one of Nigeria’s longest-lived celebrity couples.
The former Plantashun Boyz member said he planned to hold a press conference to provide more details, adding that he was committed to sharing his views directly with supporters and music lovers around the world.
“Anne McCauley and I have been separated for some time and are currently filing for divorce,” he said in an Instagram post.
Bizarrely, the post was deleted minutes later, followed by reports that the account had been hacked.
But 2Baba later took to his Instagram account to confirm the news he initially posted about the separation.
“No one hacked my account, I said what I needed to say and I’m calm,” he said in the video.
The couple also cut ties on social media, unfollowing each other on their respective platforms and standing by the performers’ statements about their breakup.
Anne played his love interest in the video for his most popular song, “The African Queen,” and their relationship is believed to have flourished ever since.
