President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach said he would not communicate with President-elect Trump until he leaves office later this year.

Bach told dpa international news agency that he congratulations trump The Republicans won the election in November but did not seek any other communication beyond that.

“I don’t think it would be fair or right for my successor to seek contact again now and potentially influence any decisions my successor makes,” Bach said of not speaking to Trump.

The International Olympic Committee will hold presidential elections in March, and Bach will step down in June.

The lack of communication between Bach and Trump comes as ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles cast doubt on the viability of Los Angeles hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics.

As of now, there are no plans to move the 2028 Olympics Los Angeles. The 2028 Olympics will be the first time in history that the host city will not have to build any new venues due to the number of stadiums and arenas in the city. But many of the areas where these venues are located have been devastated by fire.

Olympic venues near fire-affected areas include Riviera Country Club, Olympic Village, Pauley Pavilion and Rose Bowl Stadium.

LA2028 President Casey Wasserman said in a statement that he is confident Los Angeles will recover from the wildfires without affecting the Olympics.

“The thing about Los Angeles is its resilience and determination,” Wasserman said. “The strength of our community and our unity during difficult times make this city extraordinary, and when Los Angeles takes on the world in 2028, our spirit will shine brighter than ever.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom told NBC News the state is “working on a Marshall Plan” to ensure the 2028 Olympics can still be held in Los Angeles.

“President Donald Trump contributed to the Olympics being held in the United States of America – in Los Angeles. We thank him for that. This is an opportunity for him to shine, for this country to shine, for California and this country to shine “The community shines,” Newsom said.

“That’s why we’re already organizing the Marshall Plan. We’ve got a team that’s looking at, reimagining LA 2.0, and we’re making sure that everyone is included.”

However, the city’s prospects of hosting the Games have been criticized by some amid a rebuilding process expected to take years.

Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan said in an interview with Newsmax that he believes the Olympics should be moved to Republican-controlled cities and states.

“I do think the American people are rightly seeing how poorly this state has been managed, how poorly the governor and certainly the mayor of Los Angeles have handled these tragic fires,” Jordan said.

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk has also suggested moving the 2028 Olympics from Los Angeles, suggesting Dallas or Miami as the new host city.

Before the fire, Bach was confident in Trump’s ability to lead the organization of the 2028 Olympics in early December.

“We are very confident in the steps and efforts that are being taken,” Bach told a news conference after an IOC executive board meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland. “We have also seen President-elect Trump declare his support for the Olympics on multiple occasions, We never had any doubts about this because he announced this support from the beginning.”

Bach added that Olympic leaders are “very confident and relaxed” about working with Trump.

Trump and Bach last met in June 2017 White House While discussing bringing the Olympics back to Los Angeles. Trump was credited with securing the 2028 bid. However, after the first meeting, Bach had no complimentary words for Trump.

“Pray for our world,” Bach said in a cell phone call from Washington, D.C. later that day.

Now, Trump will be tasked with leading the United States’ hosting of the Olympics after one of the worst disasters in the host city’s history. He must make decisions without consulting the current IOC president before a new president is elected.
