Patrick Mahomes will play his first game as a father of three — and how will Tom Brady fare in his?

Patrick Mahomes will make his first start for the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday father of three children.

Now he’ll face the Houston Texans in the divisional playoffs. He’s under the historic pressure of trying to lead the team to its third consecutive Super Bowl — something no team has ever done — plus the personal pressure of giving birth to another newborn daughter. .

As the only active quarterback with a chance to rival Tom Brady in the legacy discussion, Mahomes faces a higher-stakes assignment than when Brady first took the field as a father of three.

Brady welcomed his third child, daughter Vivian Lake, on Dec. 5, 2012, weeks before any do-or-die playoff games.

But the risks are still quite high. Like Mahomes, Brady’s first game after giving birth to her third child was against the Houston Texans.

Brady and the New England Patriots entered Gillette Stadium for a Monday Night Football showdown with an 11-1 record against the then-AFC-leading Texans. Brady has led the Patriots to a 9-3 record as they look to catch Houston for the top spot.

Brady didn’t miss a beat.

The former Patriots quarterback had a signature game, passing for 296 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions to help New England take a 42-14 advantage. Brady even rushed for six yards on one carry, which was a good night for him by the standards of the time.

After the game, Brady viewed the win as a perfect end to the week, telling reporters that his then-wife, Giselle Bundchen, was doing well postpartum.

“She played great,” Brady told Bundchen reporters after the game. “It’s been a great week and a great way to end it.”

Mahomes has a high standard. But if he does pull off a performance similar to Brady’s in 2012, his performance will likely gain greater recognition.

With the divisional round victory, Mahomes and the Chiefs are just two wins away from an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl title. Mahomes and his wife will be even more in the spotlight on Saturday than Brady was in 2012, as Taylor Swift will also likely be in attendance along with Brittany.

Like Brady’s game in 2012, Saturday could be the last time Mahomes plays football after giving birth.

“I could have three kids now,” he told reporters on Tuesday when asked if he wanted another child. “Maybe we’ll see where it ends up, but my goal is always three, so we’ve got three and we’ll hang on there for a while and see if we need to come back later and get another one.”
