PCB finally addresses speculation of entire tournament being moved out of Pakistan


The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied all rumors of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy being moved out of Pakistan. Previous reports of the entire tournament being moved out of Pakistan became a hot topic in the cricket world.

According to reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is racing against time to complete the renovation of the stadium for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It is reported that if there are delays in construction work, the entire event may be moved out of Pakistan.

Construction and upgrading of the National Stadium in Karachi, the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium are yet to be completed. It is reported that their deadline is February 12, and if PCB does not meet this deadline, then they will have to face the consequences.

The Pakistan Cricket Board started renovation work in August and is expected to complete it by December 31. However, they are still far from this goal. This worries the ICC, especially as they face a lot of criticism over their venue infrastructure during the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, and they may consider moving the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy out of Pakistan.

However, Pakistan Cricket Board officials said all construction work at the three stadiums will be completed by the first week of February. He said there was no need to believe rumors that Pakistan would host the International ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

PCB sources added that reports of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy being moved are an attempt to tarnish Pakistan’s image on social media. But he added that they were keen to do their best when hosting the tournament. He explained in an interview with IANS:

“All the work (related to the stadium) will be completed in the first week of February. Pakistan will host the Champions Trophy successfully. No need to believe any rumours.

“We are committed to doing our best. There are people trying to tarnish Pakistan’s image on social media. We know who they are and why they are doing this.”

Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board also changed the venues for the ODI tri-nation series against South Africa and New Zealand. The tournament will be held in Karachi and Lahore, prompting a lot of speculation about the future of the 2025 International Champions Trophy.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in a hybrid format. The remaining matches will be played in Pakistan and India’s match in Dubai. The competition will be held from February 19th to March 9th.
