Player ratings as Martinez lead Red Devils to incredible victory

Lisandro Martinez’s deflected effort helped Manchester United to an incredible 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday evening as they managed their second Premier League win of 2025.

The first half at Craven Cottage was lackluster, with both sides having a combined expected goals scored of 0.42. Fulham Andre Onanan offered bright moments without too much work but Alex Iwobi tested the goalkeeper with two tame efforts – the highlights of an incredibly low-key affair.

Things didn’t get any better after the break as both teams continued to look disjointed and unconvincing in the final third. Bruno Fernandes’ clever but ultimately ill-advised free-kick drew gasps from the crowd, but there was little else to motivate the crowd of supporters for the first 75 minutes.

However, a tremendous stroke of luck finally broke the deadlock and gave the touring fans a smile for the first time. Martinez let fly from 25 yards and the defender’s strike deflected noticeably off the unfortunate Sasa Lukic before curling into the top corner.

Fulham piled on the pressure in the closing stages as they sought an equalizer and Joachim Anderson came close to securing a draw – the centre-back’s near-post header was impressively cleared off the line by substitute Toby Collier.

Amad Diallo thought he had added some gloss to the scoreline as he found the back of the net in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but VAR ultimately ruled out the Ivorian’s attempt for offside. In the end, it mattered little as United held on for an important victory.
