Bunting won eight weeks of victory, hitting nine in practice before he finally broke the duck in the final by defeating Nathan Aspinall, Luke Humphries and Gerwyn Price.

“It’s a special moment. During the Premier League, sometimes I thought: ‘Can I finish with zero points?’

“It’s a special feeling to win tonight.”

Bunting’s five-pointer was provided by his Berlin victory, which means running late in the London O2 final on May 29, which didn’t quite stand out, and now the world’s No. 5 is now only 8 points.

“Let’s not go too far,” Bontin answered as he asked during the playoffs.

“I hit my best dart tonight when I was a little relaxed and thought the league was gone.

“Obviously, I still have a chance to make it to the top four, but I won’t put too much pressure on myself.”

Webster: Colored Flags will feel a million dollars

Sky movement” Mark Webster also marked it as a “noble” and Color Flag made the playoffs in the second half of the season, but was happy to see him at least get rid of his goal.

“Although his answer to chasing the playoffs was very diplomatic, there was still time for the rest of the season – it was a tough player,” Webster said.

“He just needs to keep building and get more points because there is a huge season and a lot of Premier League darts.

“If he wins again next week, those things may continue. There is Liverpool around the corner – we know what that night means to him.

“It’s still a tough task for him, he’s realistic, but he’s doing well tonight and he’ll feel more relaxed in Manchester next week.”

Webster added: “I’m so happy to see him win tonight. You don’t like seeing a player appear and beat every week. All the right things he said, but he’ll always doubt himself.

“By then, not only will he get points tonight, but he won the night, he will feel a million dollars.”
