“I was shocked by it. What happened very quickly shocked a lot of people,” he said on Fox News. “Especially around the desk, I think we were all surprised by that. I thought it was unfair to coach Jerrold Mayo. He never had an opportunity to develop as a head coach.
“He’s just a rookie in that department himself. If you judge a coach by his first year, that’s really inappropriate.”

Mayo and Gronkowski were teammates with the Patriots for several years.

“After the game I informed Jarrod Mayo that he would not be returning as the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2025. For me personally, this was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made,” Clough Te said in a statement. “Unfortunately, the trajectory of our team’s performance throughout the season hasn’t gone up as much as I would have liked.”
