Rohit Sharma reveals route to stunning comeback under boyhood coach

India captain Rohit Sharma looked out of form during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he scored just 31 runs in three Tests at an average of just 6.20 . He didn’t look confident at the crease and the relentless attack from Australia’s bowling was too good for him.

During a tough phase, Rohit’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad gave him a golden piece of advice that could revive his Test career once again. Ryder defended Rohit and said he was not the only player in Australia struggling for runs.

Dinesh Lad talks Rohit Sharma’s ambitions

In a conversation with IANS, Dinesh Lad talked about Rohit Sharma’s remaining goals for the remainder of his career. He claimed that Rohit may retire from all schedules after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, but his target remains to win the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup.

“I think Rohit has only two goals: one is to win the World Test Championship and the other is to win the ODI World Cup. If he wants, he can retire from all formats (after winning the T20 World Cup) but he will retire from T20 cricket only Retirement,” Lad said.

Rohit Sharma is unlikely to win the World Test Championship as India failed to qualify for the 2025 summit after losing the series to Australia. The finals of the next cycle will be held in 2027, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to participate in that competition.

However, the 37-year-old has vowed to win the ODI World Cup in 2027. He has won two T20 World Cups but he has a dream of winning the World Cup. Rohit came close to winning the title in 2023, but India suffered a crushing defeat in the final.

Dinesh Lad’s golden advice to Rohit Sharma

Dinesh Ladde further suggested Rohit Sharma to play domestic cricket to prepare himself for the red-ball format. He feels that T20 cricket has affected the mentality of players and domestic cricket can help Rohit return to the field.

“He is not the only cricketer who is having trouble scoring runs. He should play one or two domestic games to prepare for the Test matches. Because of T20 cricket, the mentality of batsmen has changed,” Ladd claimed.

“He is a skilled cricketer and he scored well against England last year. If we won, people would call Rohit the best captain but when we lost, people Will say he doesn’t know the captain,” he added.

Australia reaches WTC final; India eliminated

Meanwhile, Australia defeated India 3-1 in a high-pressure series to reach their second consecutive WTC final. Australia are also the reigning WTC champions and will face South Africa in the summit at Lord’s in June 2025.

On the other hand, the Indian team has bowed out of contention for the WTC finals. This is the first time they failed to advance to the WTC finals. The Men in Blue have prevailed in each of their past two Summit Showdowns, but lost both times.
