Sky Sports News” Senior journalist Melissa Reddy sits down with Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim Sky movementAs the Portuguese said, the transfer window this summer will be “critical”.
Ruben, who has a lot of enthusiasm for Nottingham Forest, but Man Utd conspired against himself with two bad habits, first admitting, then really poor in the last third. How do you try to solve these problems?
“First of all, if you look at our season, we’re improving in the department because we’re more focused. But every time we disconnect, you can consider against Nottingham’s goal, which is a disconnect. It’s a disconnect. We have a corner kick, we have a second ball player, and then you’re going to suffer every day. It’s something we’re working out every day.
“Whether it’s through the drill or not, it needs to focus on them. So, in the offense, we try to keep the players in this position a lot of time during training. But we still need time to do it. Sometimes we need a little luck. When we shoot, when we shoot, because when we’re not goalkeepers (denied us), I can’t understand either. At this moment, we need to make a shot.
On the last third of the issues, players may be snatching or just not moving psychologically, so in terms of their decisions, shouldn’t they be as calm as they should be?
“I think they need to spend more time in this position because we don’t have a lot of games like Nottingham, like attacks. We have to spend more time there. In that moment, if you look at Rasmus (Hojlund) and Josh (Zirkzee) and Josh (Zirkzee) and Garna (Zirkzee) and Garna (Zirkzee) and Garna (Alejandro garnacho) and they do it sometimes, they’re really bad, they’re not that hard to try. It’s hard to explain because we have situations where everyone knows where Garna wants to put the ball, but something is missing, maybe it’s just the player’s moment.”
How did you transfer the player’s mindset from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City on Sunday, ahead of the most important Europa League match against Lyon on Thursday?
“It’s basically in training.
“We know Manchester City will play and will push us to a lower obstacle. However, we have to understand that when they push us, if you compare it to the Nottingham game, we will have different attack spaces. So we try to use training to adapt to other realities.”
You’ve said it a few times, you’ve said it, you’ve noticed that there are a lot of improvements in the team that can adapt to what you want to see from them. Can you tell us something particularly encouraging?
“I can see. The transition with the three defenders.
I know you want to focus on the game, but we have a huge summer for Manchester United. From your point of view, how important is this summer? Especially when it comes to recruitment?
“I think it’s crucial. I think we’re trying to do everything as soon as possible. If you look at the team’s schedule, we won’t have the club’s World Cup, which means we’ll be doing it before the season.
“If you look at the next few years, we will host the World Cup and then hold the European Championship. So this window will work on our base.
“I think it’s all crucial for everyone here and we have to take advantage of that. We won’t have the next preseason. It won’t be that way. So we need to do everything as soon as possible so that everyone is ready to get everyone started after a season like this.
“We need to show something. It’s not a debate. So I don’t want us to need a lot of time to talk. We need time, maybe to win the league, but we need a lot of improvement after this season.”
What are you looking for in the market when it comes to recruiting and the characteristics you want to see from players?
“I won’t talk about this right now because I have my players and I know my players are listening. I just want to improve the players because there are a lot of qualities out there and I have to help them get better. But, of course, I have a different way than the former coach, so I need to choose some traits that we don’t have in the team.”
In England, the focus on transfer is very high, and many coaches and managers say it is necessary to improve on the training court – is this usually more important than hiring?
“I think everything is connected. You need to be great in every department, especially in this league. You need to be great on the court. We need to improve the players, but in the moment of the club, recruiting can change the way we move forward and can be crucial.
“So when I talk about recruiting, it’s not just big guys and spending a lot of money. There are some quality players, it’s not hiring, but it really matters to us.
Aiden Paradise is a great example because you took the opportunity, you brought him in, and he has shown the qualities he has…
“Yes. We have to praise Jason (Wilcox-man UTD Technical Director). Jason did a great job. He was following these details. Aiden was a kid who got here, really worked hard, worked well, and then got hurt, he had the chance and showed a lot of qualities. If we could also change your recruitment. So we needed to put the damage on. Centre-back’, but now we have this kid, so we can save money on another thing, so it’s important that the door is open for young kids.”
You’ve talked about rushing to succeed here. You are not avoiding challenges, if anything, you put pressure on yourself…
“Yes, I think it’s my job and I know myself very well. I know myself, I know I won’t deal with this kind of life. So I go all out. I really think that in the future we can win the Premier League. We can win clubs, but I don’t want to give time at clubs – I don’t put any effort in myself because I’m going to put my efforts in me because I’m going to get my pressure. And I know I won’t handle this kind of life.”
