Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted he felt his side were too nervous for Sunday’s meeting with Bournemouth.
United were emphatic Beaten 3-0 by the CherriesHaving pounced on their weaknesses from set pieces to take the lead in the first half and never looked back, United failed to make the most of their dominance in possession.
Reflect on the gameAmorim admitted his team seemed more nervous than usual, with that energy also seeping into the Old Trafford crowd.
“This game was tough for us,” Amorim said. “We suffered again at set pieces and we were a bit nervous – even at the start of the game in the stadium, I felt it. It’s a lot of mental (panic). You can feel it not only with the players, but with the fans.
“I felt it from the first minute, there’s a lot of anxiety. It’s normal because of the context and it’s really disappointing. It’s a difficult moment but we have to face it and prepare for the next game.”
There was a problem for dead-ball situations combined Once again Dean Huijsen headed in the opening goal after avoiding Joshua Zirkzy, but Amorim was keen to deflect criticism from set-piece coach Carlos Fernandes.
“It’s my responsibility to coach them, not Carlos – it’s all on me,” he said. “Of course we want to improve. At the moment, everything is very difficult – to lose 3-0 at home to a club like Manchester United, it’s really difficult for everyone. And of course the fans are really disappointed and tired.
“You can feel it in the stadium and I understand that, but we have to deal with it. We know what to do. We have to improve the set pieces. I think we are not passing the ball as far as we did. We control. The game is better, we don’t concede too many spaces, we control very well against a team that scores 60% of their goals when they are in the (opponents’) half. is.”
