Sachin Tendulkar ended his career as the best batsman in the history of cricket. The batting maestro played his final game in the longest format of the game during the home Test series against the West Indies national cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

To be fair, his last Test seemed to be more than just a festival in Mumbai as the Wankhede Stadium was packed and all that was heard were chants of “Sachin Sachin”. The tournament took place from November 14th to 16th, which was a perfect ending for him.

Talking about his last game, Sachin Tendulkar said that he told the BCCI to keep his last Test in the Wankhede so that his mother could understand why he moved to different places after 24 years. Speaking on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Wankhede Stadium, he said:

“Before the series was announced, I contacted the BCCI and made a request. I requested that I wanted my last game to be played in Mumbai for one reason: I have been playing cricket for many years – 24 years for India cricket, and my mother never saw me play, for nearly 30 years in total.

“At that time (during the farewell Test), my mother’s health was not good. She could not travel anywhere other than the Wankhede to watch me play. I wanted her to understand why I have been moving to different places for 24 years. The BCCI was very generous in accepting accepted this request.”

Talking about playing the last Test, he mentioned that he was overcome with emotion due to the reception given to him by the crowd and the West Indies. He also talked about how broadcasters played with his emotions by showing images of his mother and other members of his emotional family. He added:

“When I went to bat on the first day, the game was almost over. When I walked out to bat, the West Indies players gave me a lot of respect. The crowd gave me a great reception. I was a My eyes were a little excited, but I had to focus, but, just before the last game, I saw the big screen in the stadium.

“There was a close-up of my mother. She didn’t realize she was being shown on the big screen. I wondered if all these shots were necessary because it was the last six balls of the day. I doubt the broadcast director held a West Indies passport , because I thought his behavior was good for West Indies and he was playing on my emotions.”
