Samsung Galaxy S25’s Qi2 Ready Case Is A Small Step To Magnetic Accessory Bliss

We are waiting and still waiting Android phones to support completely Qi2 wireless charging standard, including phones with built-in magnets. And with The Galaxy S25 line of phonesSamsung is taking a small step towards this by offering official cases which includes magnets, but does not include magnets inside the phone itself.

On the one hand, it can still be a big improvement for Qi2 accessory marketToday one of the world’s largest Android phone manufacturers offers official support for many magnetic chargers, wallets and camera mounts that are already sold. MagSafe-compatible iPhones. But on the other hand, Samsung doesn’t really offer anything “new” because third-party accessory makers make Galaxy phone cases with built-in magnets in many cases. year, offering unofficial matching of the same accessories.

Even older Samsung phones support the 15W wireless charging speed promised by Qi2 (which Samsung has long called “Fast Wireless Charging 2.0”).

This revelation of support through a phone case comes two weeks later CES 2025WHERE Samsung and Google are both committed to the growth of Qi2 with their devices this year in a joint statement by the Wireless Power Consortium. So even if phone cases are used to add magnets, Samsung and Google may eventually include support inside the hardware of other devices slated for release this year or – at the very least – continue this phone case strategy.

OnePlus has deployed a similar approach to this latest OnePlus 13 phone. The device itself supports wireless charging but lacks magnets, although the company sells cases with magnetic rings built to use Qi2 and other similar accessories.

That said, I’m sad that after two years The initial reveal of the Qi2 was in January 2023we only have the HMD Skyline as the only Android phone to date to include internal magnets in the same way that Apple has since included 2020 iPhone 12. This limits the growth of useful add-ons such as wallets, chargers and more tripod holders because you can’t use it from the moment you buy a new phone without also buying a magnetic case.

But it’s not all bad news. Although someone wants to use magnetic accessories on their Android phone and has to buy a special case, there are now many Qi2 magnetic accessories on the market that are now cheaper because the standard has been opened. While a MagSafe is certified 2-in-1 wireless charger from Belkin that Apple sells can still cost $100, there are now many Qi2 accessories that do the same thing. Staying within Belkin, same 2-in-1 charger which supports Qi2 for 15W wireless charging and magnets are available for a cheaper $70. You can also find cheaper Qi2 accessories from many other brands with a simple search.

That’s why Qi2 accessories – which work equally well with Android and iOS – are sure to come in handy. Now it’s an ongoing wait to see if first-party support will remain to require a special phone case, or if Samsung or Google will eventually put out a phone that includes magnets from a day.
