Former Pakistan Gladiators and Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will assume a “new transitional role” after being undrafted in the 10th draft of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Sarfaraz Ahmed is likely to be appointed as the head coach of Quetta Gladiators next season, reports Geo News.
Sarfaraz has been part of Quetta Gladiators since the inception of the Pakistan Super League and was released by the team earlier this month. There are speculations that Gladiators may re-sign the wicketkeeper-batsman during the PSL 10 draft. However, he officially parted ways with the team on Sunday.
Sarfaraz Ahmed to replace Shane Watson as Quetta Gladiators head coach
Sarfaraz Ahmed is reportedly set to become the head coach of Quetta Gladiators. This comes after Shane Watson decided to step down as head coach next season due to scheduling conflicts with other professional commitments. Watson was initially named head coach through the 2024 season.
Watson will not play in this year’s Pakistan Super League. Sarfaraz Ahmed is almost certain to be appointed as the new head coach of Quetta Gladiators, according to media reports. An official announcement from the franchise is expected soon.

The 37-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman shared an emotional farewell post on social media after completing his nine-year journey with Quetta Gladiators. In the post, he expressed his gratitude to team owner Nadeem Omar for his unwavering support as a player and captain.
Sarfaraz wrote: “Today I want to tell you that my time at Quetta Gladiators has come to an end and I am extremely proud. The nine-year journey I spent with this amazing team has been wonderful and beautiful. ”
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Nadeem Baili for giving me the opportunity to play for his team and providing me with everything I needed as a player and captain. I will always remember your support during this time. support.

PSL 2025 scheduled to be held in April-May
Sarfaraz has been playing for the Gladiators since the inception of the PSL. In 2019, he led the team to its first and only championship. Ahmed scored 1525 runs in 86 games at an average of 29.32, including seven fifties. However, his long tenure as captain came to an end when Rilee Rossouw replaced him for the 2023 season.
PSL 10 is scheduled to take place between April and May, but the full schedule and venue are yet to be confirmed. The draft for the 2025 season was held in Lahore and famous players such as David Warner, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell and Liton Das secured their spots in their respective teams.
