Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis: A friendship that will never fight

Shakur Stevenson reiterated this week that he will never fight his good friend Keyshawn Davis, no matter how much money is offered to him. The WBC lightweight champion said he and Keyshawn used to go to the gym and beat different fighters when they were younger. They became very close.

Stevenson said he and Keyshawn would “Take over boxing. So far, neither fighter has shown the ability to be at the top of the sport. Shakur has an outdated, obtuse Mayweather end style, and Keyshawn has a similar style.

Weight bully?

The difference with Keyshawn Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) is that he is huge for the lightweight division and arguably should be at 147 instead of 135 Fight levels. For a lightweight, he looks huge. If Keyshawn had to fight a killer like this where he belongs at welterweight Jaylen “Boots” Ennishis career will be worthless.

Keyshawn’s promoters at Top Rank may never agree to let him fight Butz because his chances of success are nonexistent and their investment in his career will be wasted.

Keyshawn, who fought in the lightweight division against smaller, older fighters, had a chance to be a champion at a young age, but wasn’t a star. If he moves up to the welterweight division where he should be, then he’s food for fighters at that level.

“When we came here, Keyshawn and I would go to every gym and we would whip a**. We used to go to the gym and beat (the boxers) in some routine,” Shakur Stevenson (Shakur Stevenson) told Cigar Talk. Youtube Channel talks about why he will never fight Keyshawn Davis.

“Any gym. Like the advanced ones. When I went to spar with Lomachenko, Keyshawn was over there beating up another Olympic gold medalist. Keyshawn was always with me. Once you get to that level, we know This day will come.

“It was just a matter of time. We knew we were both going to be able to beat (the boxer) and take over the sport of boxing. Now, the fans are going to demand and want to see us fight,” Shakur said of fans starting to push to see him and Ki Shawn said while competing in a division that lacks top fighters.

Undefeated, untested

Keyshawn failed at the 2020 Olympics, losing to Cuba’s Andy Cruz. This is not a close fight. As professionals, Keyshawn and Shakur have yet to defeat any high-level fighters. Shakur has defeated several old and minor fighters, Oscar Valdez and Jamel Herring, but he has yet to face anyone at the top level. That’s why he chose to guard Floyd Schofield. Shakur was desperate.

He’s been calling out Vasily Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis, but he’s not even getting an ounce of help from those two fighters. One explanation for this is Stevenson’s boring style. He was booed by fans every time he played, and he had no fan base outside of his hometown of Newark, New Jersey.

Keyshawn has never fought anyone with talent in his career and has zero interest in avenging four losses to Andy Cruz. He seems interested in taking the easy way out and challenging WBO lightweight champion Dennis Belinchik next month on February 14. Davis said he believes he will have a fight with WBA champion Gervonta Davis once he wins the WBO title. This sounds like a pipe dream.

“It’s not about the money,” Shakur said when told that Turki Shaikh would probably offer him and Keyshawn a lot of money for the two of them to fight. “It’s not about the money. I’m not one of those money-made (fighters), man.”

It’s a shame that Shakur doesn’t want to fight his friend Keyshawn as that might be his best option for a major clash at lightweight. Stevenson’s fight wouldn’t have happened unless Turki offered Tank Davis millions of dollars. IBF lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko may also not fight Shakur as he is nearly 37 years old and he doesn’t want to fight a runner in the final stages of his career. If Loma was younger, he would be in this fight soon. But that seems unlikely now.

Once Tank and Lomachenko are taken out of the equation, Keyshawn is left with Shakur. There’s also William Zepeda, but he won’t give Shakur the payday that the Loma and Gervonta fights did.

Keyshawn’s best career win

– Gustavo Lemos: *’5’4” depleted 140 pound fighter
– Nahir Albright: *Keyshawn narrowly wins. injured in fight
– Miguel Madueno: *The fight looks more like a WWE fight
– Jose Pedraza: *35 years old, much smaller, past his prime
