Shreyas Iyer ripped apart by former Pakistan cricketer for loss in 2024-25 Ranji Trophy

Former Pakistan national cricket team player Basit Ali slams Indian national cricket team batsman Shreyas Iyer for his failure in the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Jammu and Kashmir .

He said that if a batsman does not realize the need of the situation, he needs to play only white-ball cricket.

Mumbai’s performance with the bat was poor in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Jammu and Kashmir.

The team consisting of superstars Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and others managed to score just 120 runs.

Shreyas Iyer batted at a strike rate of 157.14 and scored just 11 runs off 7 balls

Shreyas Iyer especially noticed Basit Ali. The Mumbai batsman could not go on as he scored only 11 runs in 7 balls. He looked to attack despite the wicket falling at the other end when he tried to hit a boundary.

Shreyas Iyer, who batted at a strike rate of 157.14, was out after hitting one four and one six. Mumbai Six scored 42 runs before the batsmen’s wickets left them reeling at 47/7. Thankfully, Shardul Thakur smashed his half-century streak and led the team to a total of 120 runs.

If a red ball cricket match is happening, play like a red ball cricket match, this is my simple advice – Basit Ali

Basit Ali slammed Shreyas Iyer for playing attacking cricket, saying it was wrong for him to attack when the batsmen were out in front of him. He said he should play red-ball cricket like red-ball cricket. He explained in a video posted on his YouTube channel:

“Iyer scored 11 runs from 7 balls. It’s a four-day game. Three batsmen are dismissed in front of you. Play white-ball cricket in this format. If red-ball cricket happens, please Play like red-ball cricket. That’s my simple advice and we’ll see what they do in the second innings.”

When so many players are playing, Shreyas Iyer must score a hundred – Basit Ali

Basit Ali spoke about the poor performance of the Indian national cricket team batsmen in the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. He said the lack of scoring by his team’s players was a cause for concern. He elaborated:

“Rohit Sharma is out, Jaiswal is out, Gill is out, Iyer is out. This is a four-day cricket match. When so many players are playing, Iyer has to score a hundred, Rohit must score a hundred, Jaiswal, Gill, even Pujara are playing, will everyone score?”

Rohit Sharma is struggling in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He scored 3 runs off 19 balls, while Jaiswal scored just 4 runs off 8 balls. Shubman Gill scored just four runs for Punjab while Rishabh Pant scored just one run for Delhi.
