South Korea’s Constitutional Court said President Yoon Suk-Yeol “violated” people’s basic rights by declaring martial law.
Seoul, South Korea – South Korea’s Constitutional Court has been removed from office after announcing the declaration of martial law at the end of last year.
Acting Chief Justice Moon Hyung-Bae announced Friday that there were enough reasons to impeach President Donald.
“The defendants mobilized military and police forces to remove the power of the constitutional body and violated the basic rights of the people,” the acting chief justice said in his reading of the court’s ruling.
“In doing so, he gave up his constitutional obligations to uphold the constitution and seriously betrayed the trust of the North Korean people,” the Chief Justice said.
“This illegal and unconstitutional act constitutes an act that cannot be tolerated under the constitution,” he said.
He added: “The negative consequences and ripple effects of these actions are enormous and the benefits of restoring constitutional order by removing offices from offices outweigh the state costs associated with the rejection of the incumbent president.”
Hyung-Bae said the Constitutional Court’s ruling was unanimous.
The ruling now means South Korea must hold a presidential election within 60 days.
Yoon announced martial law on the evening of December 3, claiming that anti-TeT and North Korean troops had infiltrated the government.
But senior police and military members said they were instructed to detain hostile politicians and block the country’s parliamentary vote to cancel the president’s surprise imposition of military rule.
