Newcastle United make the long trip to Southampton to return to winning ways, after Bournemouth emphatically ended their unbeaten run last weekend.
The Magpies were stunned by Andoni Iraola’s Cherries in the opening kick-off, as Justin Kluivert netted a hat-trick in a 4-1 away win. Before that, Eddie Howe’s men had won eight straight in all competitions.
Despite being ranked sixth in Premier League table, Newcastle are well in the mix to claim a top-four spot. They also get a big chance to dash their demons from last Saturday against the league’s bottom outfit.
Southampton are rooted to the foot of the table and are yet to claim a league victory under Ivan Juric. Saints have arguably been more competitive under the Termeman Serie A coach, but their six-point haul from 22 games means they need a miracle to stay in the Premier League.

The players haven’t quite given up yet, and Newcastle, off the back of a convincing defeat, must be wary. They haven’t coasted since Saturday’s game.
However, Saints just don’t know how to pick up points. They may compete fiercely against the visitors here, but Newcastle, finally having a week off, should be able to smoke away the cobwebs and win at home.
