President-elect Donald Trump kicked off pre-inauguration festivities Monday morning with a ceremony at a church, where he was joined by a group of tech billionaires and key members of his orbit.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg, Apple leader Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai all occupied prime seats at St. John’s.

Media mogul Rupert Murdoch, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also appeared at the church.

Many of these executives were among the earliest business critics of Trump during his first term, speaking out on issues such as climate change and immigration.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chou is also expected to attend the inauguration as his company grapples with the impact of the U.S. ban, along with OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Uber’s Dara Dara Khosrowshahi will also attend the inauguration ceremony.

And of course there’s SpaceX and Tesla boss Elon Musk, who spent nearly $300 million helping the president’s campaign and has been closely aligned with him ever since.

It’s an amazing spectacle. The last public event in Washington that brought so many tech giants together in the same room was the 2020 congressional hearings on their companies.

Today, most companies still have serious pending matters before the U.S. government, including antitrust lawsuits, investigations, regulatory battles and tariffs.

Last week, Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Michael Bennett shared a letter to executives accusing them of trying to “curry favor with the incoming Trump administration. to avoid censorship, restrict regulation and buy favors.”

Altman responded on social media: “Funny they have never sent me a letter like this for my contributions to the Democratic Party.”

How the tech friendships will endure, and how far Trump will push on many of them, remains an open question.

But the president, a pariah in business circles who is leaving office for the first time, appears content with his new position.

As he wrote on social media last month: “Everyone wants to be my friend!!!”

Trump’s budding friendship with tech executives hasn’t been welcomed by everyone in his circle.

Trump’s former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon called Musk a “truly evil guy” on Sunday and claimed he would have him “out of here by Inauguration Day.”

“I see this and I think most people in our movement believe that President Trump broke the oligarchs, he broke them and they capitulated,” Bannon told ABC News.
