A 17-year-old student opened fire in a high school cafeteria in the southern city of Nashville, killing one person and injuring two others, police said.
Law enforcement in Nashville, Tennessee, said a 17-year-old suspect shot and killed a female high school student before taking his own life.
A shooting at Antioch High School in South America on Wednesday left two other people injured.
“I have been informed of the incident at Antioch High School and I thank law enforcement and first responders for their quick response and continued investigation,” Gov. Bill Lee said on social media. postal. “As we await more information, I join the people of Tennessee in praying for the victims, their families and the school community.”
Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) spokesman Don Aaron said at a news conference that the injured were being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Parents were told not to come to the school, which is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) southeast of downtown Nashville. Instead, they were advised to pick up their loved ones from nearby medical facilities.
Gun violence continues to plague the United States, with frequent school shootings lasting example.
As of December, there have been 426 school shootings in the United States since two teenage gunmen opened fire at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999, according to a database maintained by The Washington Post.
They killed 15 people, including themselves, in the deadliest school shooting to date.
There have been other high-profile school shootings in the twenty-five years since, including the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut that killed 26 people, including 20 children and six staff members.
MNPD said Wednesday’s attack began at 11:09am (17:09GMT). The suspect fired multiple shots in the school cafeteria and then shot himself. In addition to the girl who was killed in the attack, one student was injured and another suffered a graze on the arm.
Police spokesman Aaron said two school resource officers were on scene but were in different parts of the building when the shooting occurred. By the time they arrived in the area, the shooting had ended and the suspect was dead.
In a subsequent statement, President Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the affected families and survivors.
“The President and his team are monitoring the news in Nashville,” the statement said. “As the details unfold, the White House offers its heartfelt condolences and prayers to those affected by this senseless tragedy and thanks the brave first A group of responders.”
This isn’t the first time the Nashville area has suffered a tragedy like this in recent years.

In response, the Tennessee Legislature passed a bill that would allow some teachers and staff to carry concealed weapons on public school campuses, although critics have questioned the measure’s effectiveness as the state eases gun restrictions.
