Tevin Farmer revealed today that he is in rematch talks with undefeated lightweight contender William Zepeda.
Former IBF super bantamweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) lost a 10-round split decision to Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) on November 16 at Latin Night ), got a second chance against Zepeda (32 wins, 0 losses, 27 KOs) on the Riyadh card.
Peasant vs Peasant Zepeda II
If it was a 12-round fight, Farmer could end up being knocked out because Zepeda was hitting him hard with body shots in that fight and he looked tired starting in the eighth round.
The 34-year-old farmer looked tired and ready to be stopped. He was able to stand up because Zepeda was focused on landing his body on the ground due to the head movement Tevin was using. He was elusive, but he couldn’t make Zepeda miss the body. This is where he loses the battle.
Farmer and some fans thought he had done enough to win that game. The judges gave Farmer a score of 95-94, Zepeda a score of 95-94, and Farmer a score of 95-94. Boxing News 24 scores it 9-1 for Zepeda. Zepeda’s body punches didn’t appear to be factored into the judges’ scores. They only focus on headshots.
Farmer scored with a flash left hand takedown, caught Zepeda coming forward, and won the fourth. But except for the fourth, Zepeda dominated every round with his power shots, pressure and physical dominance.
Zepeda-Farmer Punch Statistics
- William Zepeda: 259 of 778 punches, 33.3%. Zepeda fired 259 rounds, 90 of which struck the body.
- Tevin Farmer: 193 of 589 punches, 32.9%. He landed 45 body shots.
The rematch is tipped to be a busy fight for Zepeda, setting up the winner of his Feb. 22 fight between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield Warm up for the game.
Zepeda will likely fight Shakur next if Shakur doesn’t suffer the hand injury. This put an end to his plans to become a world champion.
We are negotiating for a Zepeda rematch. ZEPEDA, don’t hide from this smoke😤
