Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United’s current squad could be the worst in the club’s 147-year history.
United A. Amorim was once again left scratching his head as he slipped up 3-1 loss at home For bogey-team Brighton & Hove Albion, just days after Amad Diallo avoided embarrassment against Southampton with a late Old Trafford hat-trick.
Goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter Courtesy of a horrible mistake from Andre OnanaCondemned United to a sixth home defeat this season, Amorim made his feelings clear about the standard of players at his disposal when addressing the media after the match.
“In ten games Premier LeagueWe won two,” he said. “I know. Imagine what this is like for a Manchester United fan. Imagine what this means to me. We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. I am fully aware of it.
“I’m not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed but we need to survive in the moment. I’m not naive. We need to survive now.
“We’re probably the worst team in history Manchester United. I know you want headlines but I say that because we have to accept it and change it. Here you go: your headlines.”
“It’s hard to explain,” he continued: “We have to accept the moment and not go around the problem. Everyone here is underperforming, no matter what the circumstances. We are underperforming and have to accept that.
“It’s unacceptable for any Premier League club to lose so many games, imagine Manchester United. So it’s a really difficult moment but we’ve got to carry on, we’ve got to carry on, there’s no other way. We’ve got to suffer and carry on.
“Our players are really nervous and anxious. When you go on the last pitch you remember the last match here, if I think the players feel it a lot. The only way is to keep doing the same and win games. “
Amorim was expected to turn things around quickly at United following the sacking of Erik ten Hague in October, but the former Sporting CP boss has won just five of his 15 matches in all competitions, losing seven.
