It’s always nice when something is promised at CES really come to market. That is the case of Rock Flow electric trailer reviewed by my colleague Sam Rutherford CES last year. I saw the final draft on the show floor this week and was quite impressed. Like (four!) other sustainable, electrified tiny houses we’ve seen this year, it’s shiny and luxe and decked out in tones of wood, glass, metal and white polymers.
The main features that attracted us to the Flow last year remain intact: sleeping for four, a 45 kWh battery and a 1.1 kW solar panel, full kitchen and bathroom, a queen-sized Murphy bed that transforms into a shared workspace and a convertible. dinette at the other end. The kitchen faucet even rotates 180-degrees and out the window to let you wash up outside.
The option for the Magic Pack add-on is still here. For an upcharge, it allows the Flow to self-park, hitch itself automatically and provide its own propulsion from dual motors so it’s not a drag (literally) on the car towing it. .
One of the coolest features is the glass that separates the bathroom from the rest of the cabin. At the push of a button it goes from clear to opaque so you can have some privacy without having to kick your whole family out of the trailer.
As for what’s new, those changes are in part from prospective customers. One directive was “more windows,” so a skylight was added, along with a larger rear window. Cupboards are easier to access by flipping up instead of down. And the overall shape has been refined to be more aerodynamic.
Walking in the Stream, everything feels soothing and clean. The bed was so beautiful I wanted to melt into it. The seating area is attractive and spacious. It’s hard to leave this pod home (especially considering how hard it is to find a place to sit at CES). I don’t have a vehicle that can pull a trailer, but I would love to park one of these in my yard. Although I don’t take it on the road, I happily hang on to its well-placed comfort and even (reluctantly) give it to guests when they visit.
Production on the Flow will begin early this year and shipping is scheduled for spring. The option without the motor assist and self-parking features goes for $109,500. If you want the Magic Pack package, that brings your price to $135,500. There’s also a “Founders Edition” with a limited-edition color scheme and a few more upgrades that goes for $175,000.
