The US accuses the RSF of genocide in Sudan and sanctions its leader

The world’s largest humanitarian disaster continues to take its toll as the war in Sudan continues. On Wednesday, after 20 months of conflict, the US called the actions of one half of the conflict genocidal and imposed sanctions on its leader. Mohamed Hamdan Dahl, known as Hemedti, leads RSD paramilitary forces fighting the army for control of the country since April 2023, but the army has also been accused of crimes in a war that has claimed an estimated 150,000 lives.
