Newcastle winger Miguel Almiron could leave the club before the transfer deadline, says manager Eddie Howe.
Elmiron has been a key player for Newcastle since arriving from US club Atlanta six years ago, but has fallen down the pecking order, last scoring a goal in December 2023.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a return to MLS and came close to joining the Saudi club last summer.
Ho said: “I think Miggy’s head has been very strong here. He’s been brilliant in training this week and I haven’t seen a moment where I think oh, I need to address this or talk to him or have a deep conversation.
“I think we are both aware of the situation. Yes, there is interest in him from other clubs. There’s potentially a chance he could move past the window, but until that moment, and if that moment never comes, he’s still a valuable member of the team.
Eddie Ho on the Southampton Challenge:
“It was a really tough game against a newly promoted team. They showed their qualities that day, they are a very technical team. They have a very aggressive man-to-man style with the ball, so we have to deal with that.” pic.twitter.com/4nahwku0ym

“We love him to bits, he’s got a great energy and character that has never changed for a second, being the ultimate professional. And let’s see what happens. “
Newcastle were thumped last weekend by Bournemouth to definitively end their long winning streak.
Ho says forward Callum Wilson is close to a comeback, while goalkeeper Nick Pope could be in the squad to face Southampton on Saturday.
He said: “It’s too early for a column. The column is on track to return as early as February.
“He is making good progress. We’re trying to do the right things with him and make sure he’s strong enough and has a load on his back and back before he starts training with the group.
“But it looks very positive. What a great player to welcome back.
“There is a chance that Nick will come into the team. He’s started training with the group again and it’s great to see Nick back and his presence, his positivity that he brings.
“I’ve seen him do some really good things this week, so yeah, it’s nice to have him back in the mix.”
