It seems that Ange Postecoglou still has the support of the board and his players, but patience is wearing thin among supporters.
The Greek-Australian squad remains ravaged by injuries and has no doubt made up for Tottenham’s woeful run over the past few months. Their woes on the availability front have apparently worsened ahead of Thursday Europa League clash with Hoffenheim, but Postecoglou should have some of his players back next month.
The competition is crucial for the Spurs boss, and a top-eight finish would be ideal considering the damaged side will avoid two extra play-off games to reach the round of 16.
With Tottenham currently ninth in the league stage table, Thursday’s clash is significant. Here’s how they could line up against Hoffenheim.
GK: Brandon Austin – Antonin Kinski is not eligible and Fraser Forster has not featured in the match day squad this year. Austin could make his second start for the club with number one Guglielmo Vicario also out.
RB: Pedro Poro – It’s been a poor campaign for Poro so far, but the Spaniard has been out since the Everton defeat and Continued to support his manager. Postecoglou could do with a surge in form from his right-back.
CB: Radu Dragusin – The Romanian international had injury concerns after Sunday’s game, but he trained ahead of the trip to Germany and should continue in the squad.
CB: Archie Gray – Gray was used in a hybrid role at the weekend, with Postecoglou unlikely to choose a back three from possession on Thursday. The young man must return to the role he has begun to become familiar with.
LB: Ben Davies – With DJ Spence and Sergio Regulon both unregistered, Davies, who returned from injury at the weekend, is expected to start at left-back, with Destiny Udogi on the sidelines.
CM: Rodrigo Bentanker – Bentanker has been out for a few weeks with concussion, and has struggled to be available for much of 2024/25. Spurs could do with some stability from their classy Uruguayan midfielder.
Chief Minister: Lucas Bergwal – The teenage Swede has stood out amid Spurs’ turmoil and will continue in the side with Pep Sir, the latest to succumb to Tottenham’s injury bug.
Prime Minister: James Madison – Maddison’s numbers have been impressive this term, but Spurs need more of their key playmaker amid their ongoing struggles. He has not featured since shining at the Etihad.
RW: Dejan Kulusevski – Kulusevski’s best work has come centrally this season, but Postecoglou will be forced to use him out wide again on Thursday in Brennan Johnson’s absence. The 24-year-old scored a beautiful goal at Goodison Park.
ST: Richarlison – With Dominic Solanke out, Tottenham need another £60m arrival to stay afloat. Priority number one: Stay fit. Priority number two: a few scores.
LW: Mikey Moore – Son Heung-min’s role will have to be reduced. It’s time for Moore to step up, delivering a brilliant cameo at Goodison Park on Sunday. Kishore has the talent to ignite this slump Tottenham team
