Washington (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump administration requested US federal agencies on Friday to close roles and office related roles, equity and incorporating programs, displayed in a memo spreading Office of Personnel Management.
Why is it important
Trump, a Republican, issued a series of executive orders trying to break dei programs since he sat on duty on Monday.
Dei programs seek to emphasize opportunities for women, ethnic minorities, LGBT people and other traditional unpresised groups. Civil Rights argues that such programs, often supported by Democrats, needed to meet long-term uneven and structural racism.
Trump and his allies say dei programs are unfairly discriminating with other Americans and weaken the importance of merit of job or promotion candidates.
Good end
“According to that command, every agency, department, or commission leadership must work to close, to the highest law, all office and position of Dei, and ‘justice to nature’ within Sixty days, “as the memo. .
Context
Trump also presses the private sector to join his attack on Dei. The civil rights advocates say that his push marks a significant failure in decades long efforts to ensure federal hiring and contracts.
The memo does not immediately clear how many dei staff are at each federal agency.
