Trump says Ukraine’s Zelenskyy ready to make deal with Russia


president Donald Trump Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to negotiate a deal to end the war with Russia, he said on Thursday, adding that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin hoped to meet soon.

Trump spoke with reporters Thursday afternoon after signing multiple executive orders in the Oval Office. When a reporter asked Zelenskyy if he told him he was prepared for a war settlement with Russia, Trump provided confirmation.

“Yes, he’s prepared to negotiate a deal. He wants to stop that,” Trump said. “He’s a man who has lost a lot of soldiers, and so has Russia. … Russia has lost more soldiers. They’ve lost 800,000. Would you say a lot? I would say a lot.”

He was also asked whether sanctions on Russia would force Putin to negotiate.

“I don’t know, but I think he should make a deal,” Trump said.

Trump also told reporters that Chinese President Xi Jinping could have an impact on the war between Russia and Ukraine because of his power over Russia. He explained that the two countries are large trading partners.

Trump pointed out that Russia provides a lot of energy to China, and the latter pays a lot of money to the former.

“I think they have a lot of power over russiaso I think Russia should want to make a deal,” Trump said. From what I heard, Putin wants to meet with me and we will meet as soon as possible.”

“Soldiers are being killed every day in numbers we haven’t seen in decades,” he said. “It would be nice to end this war. It’s a ridiculous war.”

Putin is reportedly worried about the state of the country’s economy as Trump returns to the Oval Office. Reuters reports that Trump’s efforts to end the war in Ukraine have only heightened Putin’s concerns.

Throughout his campaign, Trump pushed to end world conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war, which began with Putin’s 2022 invasion.

last month, Putin said He is prepared to compromise Ukraine in possible talks with Trump to end the war and has no conditions for starting talks with Ukrainian authorities.

“We have always said that we are ready to negotiate and compromise,” Putin said at the time. He said Russian forces were advancing across the front and were moving toward achieving their main objectives in Ukraine.

“I think soon no one will want to fight. We are ready, but the other side needs to be ready for negotiation and compromise.”
