Consider that just rumored Labyrinth reboot must wait. Robert Eggerswho is still very high on praise from critical acclaim and box-office receipts of Nosferatuannounced that he remained in the timely monster kingdom at the moment, this time with a werewolf at its center. He is still sticking to the same release schedule, with Christmas 2026 looking to repeat the success of NosferatuDropping Christmas 2024.
The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Eggers will direct as his next feature Werwulfwhich he co-wrote with Sjón, his script collaborator on The Northman. The trade says there aren’t many details yet, but says that “sources say the story is set in 13th century England. The script also features dialogue that is faithful to the period of period and with translations and annotations for those unfamiliar with Old English. At first, Eggers planned to shoot the feature in black and white, but that was no longer the case.
as Nosferatu, Werwulf will be a Focus Features release. This is the latest historical horror tale from Eggers, whose filmography also includes The Witch and The Lighthouse. In his filmography he shows a remarkable talent for capturing period detail, first seen in 1630s New England in The Witch but the most famous, perhaps, in 1830s Germany-set Nosferatuhis biggest box office hit yet. Writing an entire script in Old English is definitely a bold move for his next chapter.
With Universal’s new Werewolf Man having failed to make much of an impact in its first week of release, by the time Christmas 2026 rolls around the audience’s appetite may be fresh for another painful change under the full moon.
