Venkatesh Iyer talks about his price conversation after his first win at IPL 2025

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer gave his critics the right answer by scoring against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Iyer responded to his high-priced discussion, adding that the value of the players’ auction does not determine their performance.

Kolkata Knight rider spent Rs 23.75 crore to buy back Venkatesh Iyer at IPL 2025 Mega auction after he was released. He was a key player in the championship campaign last season. It was the third highest bid in the big auction, behind Rishabh Pant (Rs 27 crore) and Shryas Iyer (Rs 2675 crore).

Once the ipl starts, it’s OK – Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer faced criticism in early 2025 after he won only nine runs in the first three games, with him not playing in one of them. Given his huge price of Rs 23.75 crore, expectations are high. But the Almighty silenced the critics, allocating 60 discounts to Sunrisers in Hyderabad for 29 times.

Iyer talked about his attention to auction prices and pointed out that the value of the player has nothing to do with the performance on the spot. The left-handed batsman stressed that he remains focused on his role on the team.

“Once the IPL starts, whether you sell it for Rs 20 lakh or Rs 20 lakh. That money doesn’t define how you will play cricket,” Ayer said in a post-match press conference.

The 30-year-old admitted that his high prices naturally increase pressure. Despite his price tag, Iyer said he doesn’t have to score points in every game.

“We have a young man called Angry Raghuvanshi, who did a great job. I know the problem of high payments and expectations will be huge, but I’m a player who wants to contribute to the success of the team.”

“There will be tricky situations when my team asks me to play a few goals. If I can do that, I did the job for my team even after not scoring. That doesn’t mean I’m the highest paid cricketer and I’m going to have to score in every game. It’s about impact.”

He added: “Yes, there is some pressure, I won’t lie. There is no pressure on money, it’s about how to contribute to the success of the team.”

I don’t see who the bowling is – Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer smashed two six points and six boundaries in his last 12 delivery. He scored 20 runs in the penultimate penultimate. Iyer said he wasn’t focused on the bowlers, but on the delivery itself and on-site setup.

“I don’t watch who bowls. The focus is always on bowling, looking at the position in the field,” he said.

Kolkata Cavaliers lost two of the two of the first three games in IPL 2025 by securing their first home win this season. It was their second win in four games, as they climbed to sixth place at the scoring table of 10 teams.
