The Israeli army recognized the shortcomings in its initial representations of the involvement of their troops in the murder last month, 15 people in southern Gaza, who said that the United Nations are all paramedics and rescue workers.

Admission came on Saturday, the day after Video Obtained by the New York Times, it seems that it is contrary to the key part of the earlier version of the army event. While the army said she had shot the vehicles after “advertising suspiciously”, the video showed clearly marked ambulance and a fire truck.

The episode has withdrawn international supervision and condemnation. After the sharp inconsistencies in the Israeli account were discovered, the army seemed to move faster than usual to resolve the issue. Internal military investigations in questionable deadly episodes can be withdrawn for months, even for years.

Versions of the Israeli army

In his initial statements after the discovery of the body, the army insisted that his troops had opened the fire as he approached them in the dark “without paint or emergency signals”.

But the video – discovered on a paramedic mobile phone found in a mass grave – shows that an ambulance and a fire truck lit light in an emergency because the Israeli forces released their barracks.

The army now says that the initial representation of the power on the ground was “wrong”.

Military officials previously claimed that nine were killed by Hamas or Islamic jihad operatives. They called only one of nine and did not provide evidence for their request.

On Saturday, a military official who met journalists about the initial findings of the internal investigation said they were at least six out of 15 Hamas operatives, but have not yet provided evidence. The official spoke about the state of anonymity according to military rules.

Before meeting with emergency vehicles, an official said, spare forces from the Peshaj Brigade were ambushed by the road north of the city of Gazan Rafah before dawn on March 23. At 4 a.m., they killed what the official described as two Hamas security staff and detained a third.

Two hours later, as Dawn broke down, the emergency convoy approached the same place. When rescue workers began to leave their vehicles, the officer said, the Israeli forces believed that the Hamas operatives who walked toward them and opened fire from Dalek.

Amos Harel, analyst of military affairs for the left -wing newspaper Haaretz, said in an interview that the soldiers had a “good reason to be anxious” and that it would be wrong to assume that the case is “murder in cold blood”, citing Hamas fighters for the frequent use of civilian infrastructure.

But the episode asks questions, said Mr. Harel, about the military behavior and version of the events reported from the country.

The military official denied reports that some bodies were found bound and shot in the immediate vicinity. He said the troops buried the bodies to protect them from wild animals and use heavy equipment to move vehicles with disabilities off the road, waving them.

What do groups say to help

Representatives of the Palestine Red Crescent Society said last week that the ambulances started on March 23 at about 3:30 in the morning to evacuate Palestinian civilians wounded by Israeli shelling.

The Red Crescent said that the Israeli forces hit an ambulance and his crew and that several other emergency vehicles and fire trucks went to the scene in the next few hours to save them. A UN vehicle was also sent, the United Nations said.

A total of seventeen people were shipped, 10 of whom were red crescent workers, six were urgent respondents from the Gaza Civil Protection Service, and one was a UN worker.

It takes days to negotiate an approach to take over 15 bodies. The Red Crescent said that a doctor was still missing and that the Israeli forces had detained it and later released.

The Red Crescent said that Israeli “targeting” his doctors should be considered a “war crime” and requested an investigation. He added that the last murders were brought by 27 numbers of his members killed during the war, which began on October 7, 2023, a deadly attack under the guidance of Hamas to southern Israel.

On Friday, the president of the Palestinian Society of the Red Crescent, Dr. Younis Al-Khatib, told reporters that, based on autopsy and forensic evidence, the workers in emergency were “targeted from a very close range”.

The reaction in Israel so far

The case received a broader coverage in Israel from the exposure to the video. Politicians were mostly silent, perhaps waiting for the army to complete their investigation.

Mr. Harel, analyst of military affairs, said the investigation was the first test for the recently set military chief of the headquarters, Lieutenant Eyal Zamir, in connection with the military international position.

And the bigger issue of responsibility remains. Yesh Din, the Israeli Human Rights Organization, revealed last year that out of 573 cases of suspected war crimes in Gaza, which the army had examined in the past decade, only one led to criminal prosecution.
