Cardiff City, Everton and Fulham started the third round of the FA Cup, all emerging victorious in their Thursday night fixtures. Aston Villa ran out winners in an all-Premier League battle the night before, beating West Ham United in Graham Potter’s first game in charge of the Irons.

Liverpool, who last won the competition in 2021/22, eased into the fourth round. A 4-0 win over League Two outfit Accrington Stanley. Trent Alexander-Arnold starred after a difficult week for the right-back and Federico Chiesa scored his first goal for the club.

Chelsea secured a similarly high-scoring win over League Two opposition, Beat Morecambe 5-0 at Stamford Bridge. Brackets from Tosin Adarabioyo and Joao Felix sealed the emphatic victory, and the Blues will be joined in the fourth round by Bournemouth, Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest.

The biggest surprise of Saturday’s FA Cup fixtures was Plymouth Argyle’s 1-0 victory at Brentford. Morgan Whittaker scored the winner in the final match for the Pilgrims before Miron Muslik took charge from the recently dismissed Wayne Rooney.
