Why does Donald Trump see China as a threat to AI, but not to TikTok?




“This is money that would otherwise go to China,” Trump said Tuesday as he unveiled Stargate, an artificial intelligence project that will cost $500 billion, according to its partners OpenAI, Softbank, Oracle and MGX. It was another indication that staying ahead of Beijing on artificial intelligence is a priority for the Trump administration. But in his bid to save TikTok, a video app that was briefly banned in the US under a law that took effect the day before Trump took office, the president appears much more relaxed about China.
