Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron was one of his best performances in his NASCAR career during the Sunday Goodyear 400 Stubborn Ride at Darlington Raceway. However, he shared his frustration after a painful loss Danny Hamlin.
Byron was at his best throughout the 400-mile race. He led 243 in 297 laps, winning Stage 1 and Stage 2, and it looks like he’s easy to win. His car was fast and his team did a great job on race weekends. Until the final green flag pit cycle, everything seemed perfect, where he lost the lead for the first time and never backed off.
23xi Racing’s Tyler Reddick took over the lead on lap 249 until the warning period in the late season, with four laps, kicking the game into overtime. All the leaders entered the last stop, that was Denny Hamlin’s Joe Gibbs Racing The crew stopped quickly. Hamlin got the perfect launch on the reboot and took the lead on the field. Byron tried to catch up with him, but couldn’t catch up in time.
Hamlin continues to win the game and defeat Byron Only 0.597 seconds. After the game, Byron (via Speedwaydigest) said in the pit area:
“First of all, it’s very proud of my team, bringing such effort and preparation, having such a car. It seems like a perfect race to make us execute like this. We’re going to lead every lap. It’s very proud of it.”
He added: “Those guys may have become aggressive on the other side of the Green Flag cycle, and we lost control there. Once we lost control, it was too late, and we got back there. Yes, it sucked. I’m sure it would sting a lot tonight. There was still a lot of positive effects. Of course, it stinged.”
Despite the setbacks, Byron increased his lead from 16 to 49 in the driver’s ranking. Hamlin entered second place after his 56th career victory.
William Byron 2nd in Cota
This is not the first time William Byron has been ranked second in the season-ending battle. Something similar happened on Cota’s Echopark Texas Grand Prix when he finished the championship. Christopher Bell.
In the final lap of the game, Bell was fighting for the lead with Kyle Busch, and Byron sat patiently waiting for his chance to fight for the lead. While Byron does have a chance to act on Bale, he doesn’t want to destroy Bale’s game with an overly aggressive move and ranks second. After the game, William Byron shared:
“I’m really close. I feel like the fight between him (Christopher Bell) and Kyle (Busch), sitting there waiting for them to shake or slide the tires. Bell met him and I feel like once he became clear, his car was super, his car was loose, that shot gave me a few shots…I’ve been unable to compete with him.
William Byron will return to the Cup on Sunday, April 13 at the 500th Restaurant at Bristol Motor Speedway. The game is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm ET.
