toronto maple leafs forward William Nylander He shared his thoughts on the team’s third straight win as they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 on Monday.

After a rough stretch in which they lost three straight games, the Leafs returned to winning form, a trend that was underscored by their performance against the Lightning.

Nylander praised 27-save goaltender Joseph Woll, admitting that his key save helped maintain the Maple Leafs’ lead (from 9:10 onwards):

William Nylander said: “I thought we were just creating. Woll did a great job. He made some huge saves (in the game) to keep us in the lead.”

Nylander also played a key role, extending the Toronto Maple Leafs’ lead to 13:45 of the second period. Reflecting on his goal, he praised his teammates for a strong defensive performance.

“Yeah, I mean, Stevie and Mo had a great defensive game out there and then we were able to poke it and get some separation,” Nylander said.

When asked about the Maple Leafs’ three-game winning streak, William Nylander had a succinct response:

He added: “It doesn’t matter.”

The Toronto Maple Leafs improved to 30-16-2 with their latest victory, five points behind the Florida Panthers atop the Atlantic Division.

Their homestead will continue next Wednesday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at Scotiabank Arena. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Auston Matthews opened the scoring for the home team at 4:06 of the first period, which proved to be the only goal of the period. William Nylander extended the Leafs’ lead at 13:45 of the second.

With less than four minutes left in the period, Nick Paul reduced the deficit to 2-1. However, late in the period, Matthew Knies restored the Leafs’ two-goal advantage.

Entering the third period, Darren Raddys named the Lightning a goal with a 3-2 shot. Knight then added his second on the power play to close the gap to a 4-3 bolt.

However, a late empty goal from Mitch Marner sealed the victory for the Maple Leafs, ending the game 5-3.
