Senior Forms Analyst Jamie Lynch looks forward to the big betting action on day one of the Berkshire Winter Millions in Windsor on Friday, Sky Sports Racing Live.
this Fitzdales Sovereign Barrier The 3.35pm handicap is as strong as any Premier League handicap in the UK so far this season.
Four of the horses are rated higher than those in Greatwood’s top weight class, and that’s a fair number, just one in the 14 weight classes. Let’s delve a little deeper into this area.
1. Brentford Hope
Jockey: Paul O’Brien | Trainer: Harry Denham
Once upon a time there was an Arc entry. On his reappearance, he was runner-up in the second tier elite and there is no doubt he is up to that level, but the wide handicap is his baggage, highlighted by his signing last season where he finished an excellent 1st Second place (out of 24), also below top weight, went to Daddy Long Legs at the Punchstone Festival.
Given his intense touring style, this track certainly suited him well and was probably reserved for this valuable award.
2. Proceedings
Neil Houlihan | Gary Moore and Josh Moore
He still has a sense of unfinished business, partly because he has only raced eight hurdles in three seasons, with a promising fourth-place finish at Kempton over Christmas, starting at 11/ 1, but traded 2/1 at odds of 11 to 1, telling how he traveled before the absences caught up.
Beating the likes of Brentford Hope at Newbury last season, it was a similar set-up here after his only previous double-figure appearance saw two wins and a Group One win Game 4 win.
3. Cabral du Masson
Harry Cobden | Paul Nicholls
The fast-improving five-year-old won his first three races but was beaten by Fiercely Proud in the Ladbrokes Hurdle at Ascot after the pair led by 17 feet. This leaves the handicapper with no choice but to lift him 8 pounds higher, even though the force of the pull during play is greater than the force of the first two springs.
It will also bring back memories of how tough he was in a race at Ascot less than four weeks ago, which may have had an impact on someone so young, but that’s assuming he’s positive The pillars are all supported by evidence.
4. The glory of bloomers
Harry Skelton | Dan Skelton
The newly minted prince won for the first time in a row for the third consecutive season, defeating the Nemean Lion at Sandown to 18lbs and comfortably leading on heavy ground to finish with a career-best score of 139, following on from his recent win During several of his campaigns, ratings reached the 130s. Heuristic models that use past behavior to predict the future bring danger to Knickerbocker’s glory and the coming peace.
5. Defeat the bat
Brian Carver|Harry Fry
It’s easy to say he’s ahead of his level as he beat Dysart Enos for the second time at the end of last season (given her mare allowance) while making his debut at the start of this season, in a race The quality and quantity of Haydock, the runner-up, was very high. The stable won its only previous race at Sovereign with Metier leading the way, while Beat The Bat may have reached his peak after just seven races.
6. Cracking Rhapsody
Craig Nicol | Ivan Willans
Head coach Ewan Whillans has a happy habit of improving his performance with every game, as his superficial figures of 5/12 suggest, despite the only time he’s set foot on Outside of Scotland or the North it has been a rather chastening experience at Cheltenham this season for Greatwood (10th at 33/1). He has since bounced back high in his beloved Kelso pool, but he’s back in a completely different pool and is higher than ever in the handicap.
7. Give me five
Michael O’Sullivan | Michael O’Sullivan Harry Denham
Giveme Five was targeting a win in a high-value Grade 4 race at Cheltenham in October before his limitations were exposed in a thrilling Grade 3 race at Fairyhouse the following month. In the jet stream of the excited Anzadam.
This will be his first handicap over hurdles and the question now is whether he deserves the 132, still relying on his Adonis second. I’d put him second or third in the stable behind Brentford Hope.
8. Go to Dante
James Bowen | Ollie Murphy
Go Dante, who performed well last term and won the Empire Cup as expected, has only gained 1 pound. However, this is due to some drops in standards so far this season, with him performing disconcertingly in the Ladbrokes Hurdle when not wearing his usual cheek guards (back here). This could be an example of Father Time meeting Mother Nature at the age of nine.
9. Hardy Dussel
William Featherstone (7) | Jamie Snowden
His way is worth it but one win in the last three years tells a story and the fact remains that he is 0/8 over 130s, hurdles and fences and usually smaller hurdles than that . This second reappearance at Carlisle showed that all his faculties and appetites were intact, but his avarice in this company.
10. Court proceedings
Harry Reid|Harry Denham
Harry Denham’s charge has some flaws and weaknesses, but it can be devastating when he loses a lead, as was the case with Markit Rayson when he returned, albeit with his trademark star-gazing look , but he never gave his Odds supporters a moment of worry. The problem is that this race is a much tougher one, involving a fight for the lead (Knickerbocker Glory is in the line-up), whereas he threw in the towel in an equally tight handicap last spring (the Novices Final at Sandown).
11. Nothing Happens Eric
Kieran Woods | JoJo and AJ O’Neal
Wreckless Eric is a player on the rise who has beaten 26 of 27 opponents in the Cheltenham Handicap in his last two starts. Only the aggressive Mirabad did it for him in the race, but not Wreckless Eric, who dropped out again. This would test the theory that the better the game, the better he will be, but he certainly falls into that mold. Considering he’s only five years old and has only started six games, there’s no telling how high he can climb. A good gallop would help unlock his latent talent.
12. Navajo Indy
Gavin Sheehan | Tom Symonds
His confidence was high, but so was his performance after a successful debut by Newbury’s Gerry Feilden, who gained 8 pounds in a race that was lighter than it looked (very few someone participated).
It’s not just a rejigged rating because the track and pace will be different here, but the bottom line is that there isn’t a horse in the field that’s hotter than him.
13. Secret Squirrel
Nico de Boanville | Hughie Morrison
This horse was arguably the moral winner in the Ascot Ladbrokes Hurdle as he ran better and longer than other horses who had gone too far in front and was booked for third at the last start. Three. He had to bounce back from hard falls and tough matches, which was easier said than done.
Still, there was a feeling at Ascot that there was still more to come from him and that he was under threat early on.
14. Oval Tower
Isabelle Williams(3) |Evan Williams
Tour Ovalie went from strength to strength and scored a hat-trick at Newbury, where she performed well to catch Break My Soul when no other race came close to matching the low-priced favourite. However, she still had a mountain to climb to get out of the way, and she weighed 6 pounds more than her reassessed score.
Jamie Lynch’s Sentence
It’s a game full of improvers, but finding one with more improvements is a challenge, and the best fit in that regard is probably a five-year-old Nothing’s wrong Eriche would have won the Cheltenham Handicap for the second time in a row but for an inspired ride from Mirabard. His later-emerging style also fit nicely into the set-up of the game.
