Former Gunners left-back Nigel Winterburn says Arsenal’s new striker signing could be a “catalyst” for success.
Mikel Arteta’s side finished runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League in the last two seasons and are currently second again – six points behind Liverpool.
They have struggled for an out-and-out goalscorer since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left the club with winger Bukayo Saka being their main goal threat last season.
Saka is injured and while Winterburn knows signing a proven goalscorer will not be easy, he feels it will make all the difference.
Talking to 101 Great Goals by William Hill Vegas Winterburn said: “There are always discussions with Arsenal about a centre-forward.
“I personally think that if everyone is fit, an out and out goalscorer will make Arsenal very dangerous.
“If you can guarantee a 25 Premier League goal forward that would be a catalyst. We have not won trophies with this new team.

“With the new striker we will be very close and will scare a lot more teams.”
The Gunners have scored 43 goals in the Premier League this season – seven fewer than Liverpool and one behind both Chelsea and Manchester City.
Kai Havertz is their leading goalscorer in the league with eight and Aubameyang was the last man to score 20 in the league in 2019–20.
Winterburn said: “You can go out and buy a striker and still not win the title. We have had strikers before but the team was not that strong.
“But now that everyone is fit the team is strong. The problem this season has been with injuries and moving players around, tinkering with the system. “
