“They ask us to think about AI for all contracts in progress and we justify why it is not possible,” says the VA employee. “I think they think about how you fill the gaps (on canceled contracts) in AI.”

“We have never permission to use AI, because there is sensitive info on some GitHub repongs,” as a VA tech student, like other sources, they want to remain unknown because they are not allowed to communicate with media. “Theoretically it can writer to something and withdraw a set of data.” Most of that data, according to the source, stored and accessed by multiple application interfaces. It includes information such as veteran’s social security and family members and bank information, as well as medical history and medical and disability.

New tools also mean new security risks. “Any program tools or applications you use in federal systems should meet a set of security classifications,” the source says. They are concerned that the proposed use of OpenHands has not been properly referred to for government purposes for security bonds that can leave VA systems and data.

“They did not follow any normal procedure, and slowed people,” they said, knowing that the failure of veterans could prevent their benefits. “These are the people who give pieces themselves in their country and they deserve more respect than.”
