Punjab King (PBKS) spinner Yuzvendra Chahal talked about the challenge of facing MS Dhoni before facing MS Dhoni’s previous conflict with Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. Chahal said he could only guess that CSK ICON had about 2% or 3% of the ideas in the competition over the past few years.

The Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings will face Muranpur on Tuesday, April 8. CSK struggles to get the form and will enter the game with just one win in their first four games. On the other hand, the team led by Shreyas Iyer started a stronger start and won two wins from three games.

Before the fight between PBK and CSK, Yuzvendra Chahal said Ms. Dhoni knew his game very well and watched him closely from behind the stump for years. However, Chahal admits that he can hardly predict Dhoni’s mentality.

“Mahi Bhai has been looking at my bowl from behind the stump for years. He knows how I bowl, my thoughts and what I might do. I can read what Mahi Bhai is thinking, maybe 2% or 3%. I know he’s stuck in the attitude of a bat.”

He added: “If he walks in between 1-10, we know we have to attack. But if he goes into the late stages of the game, we will fully understand what he will try to do. We plan accordingly. You won’t be able to give him a simple ball – if you do, he’ll send it out of the park.”

Yuzvendra Chahal and MS Dhoni endured a tough start to IPL 2025 season

Yuzvendra Chahal made his international debut under the captain of MS Dhoni during his visit to Zimbabwe in India in 2016. Both players have had a challenging start to the IPL 2025 season. Chahal, representing Punjab, took only one wicket in three matches, with an average of 102 and an economic speed of 10.20.

Dhoni faces criticism for his limited influence on Chennai Super Kings bats. He scored 76 runs with a 138.18 strike rate, and was rejected only once. The Chennai Super Kings have also been struggling as the team has now lost three straight games after the opening victory with the Mumbai Indians.

In the same interview, Yuzvendra Chahal praised the calm and approachable leadership style of the Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer. Chahal said Iyer gives players freedom to express themselves, even maintaining composition under pressure.

“I know Srias very well – he is my good friend. He gives you a lot of freedom. You can get close to him anytime. He is very calm. That doesn’t mean that if the opposition is running on the score, he’ll panic – he’s still compos.
