Trainer Jose Benavidez Sr. selects Dmitry Bivol to defeat Undisputed Light Heavy in the 31 Days rematch on February 22 in Riyadh Heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.
Old Jose said that he believed that the first match between former WBA 175-pound champion Bivol (23 wins, 1 loss, 12 KOs) and Beterbiev (21 wins, 0 losses, 20 KOs) on October 12 last year was “One point” wins. He expects Bivol to do it again in next month’s rematch.
Benavidez Sr. said Bivol is “faster” and his “movements” are key to why he believes he deserves the win over Beterbiev. He failed to mention how timid and unwilling to engage Bivol became from the sixth round onwards. He left that part out.
Bivol showed no enthusiasm as he ran around the ring; Escape from the wolfBeterbiev throughout the second half. Many fans seemed to decide who would win based on the first six rounds and then mentally fell asleep when Beterbiev took over in the second half.
Confirmation bias in boxing
it’s known confirmation biasthis happens when people form their opinions very early and make quick judgments about events, such as the battle of Bivol-Beterbiev 1. Those who believed Bivol had won made their collective minds up after six rounds, then spent the second half looking for evidence to support their stated beliefs. They sealed Beterbiev’s dominance as he controlled the game through constant pressure.
“I think it will be another tough battle. We saw that both of them tried their best. Both of their styles suit each other well and I believe in the first game, Bivol won. For this A fight that Bivol can win again,” said Jose Benavidez Sr. Sean Zittle Regarding his thoughts on the February 22 rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
“He’s a little faster, moves a little more,” Jose Sr. said of Bivol. “Beterbiev hits hard and he’s probably waiting for that big hit. Bivol, hopefully, he doesn’t stand in front of him and gets hit with a big hit. So, I think it’s going to be the same fight.
“Bivol, I think he won by a point. It was a very close fight. For me it was probably a draw but they gave it to Beterbiev. I’m not a judge but I Feel like he (Bivol) did enough to win the fight,” Benavidez Sr. said.
Benavidez’s bet
If Bivol wins the rematch with Beterbiev, it would be beneficial for Jose Benavidez Sr., as his son David “The Mexican Freak” Benavidez fights Biwall’s coordination is better. They have feuded in the past, with Benavidez reportedly getting the better of him with his pressure and volume.
Benavidez struggled against Beterbiev as he was much stronger with his short power punches and was a great counterpuncher. The size Benavidez relies on to win fights would leave him vulnerable to being pinned and injured by Arthur.
In addition, Beterbiev is also very physical and he exploits Benavidez’s main weakness in this area. Benavidez doesn’t handle body shots well, and Beterbiev will frequently target the area, hitting him in between his rushing attacks to knock him down.
If Beterbiev beats Bivol on February 22, Benavidez will have to seriously consider whether he wants to take that fight or move up to lightweight to chase Gilberto “Zurdo” ” Ramirez.
That is, of course, assuming “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez wins his February 1 fight against WBA “regular” light heavyweight champion David Morel. Morel will likely win this fight with his superior strength, skill and youth.
Morell will face the winner of the Beterbiev vs. Bivol 2 rematch, and Benavidez will decide whether to move up to lightweight or become one of the many contenders at 175. Jose Sr. would likely cheer for Bivol to win the rematch, knowing his son Benavidez’s stake in the situation.
