Boxing star Tyson Fury announces retirement after loss to Alexander Usyk


boxing star Tyson Fury said on Monday that he was retiring from the sport after losing to Alexander Usyk in their rematch last month.

Fury, 36, announced the news in a video posted on Instagram.

“Hi everyone, I’m going to keep this short and sweet. I want to announce my retirement from boxing,” Fury said. “This was awesome, I loved every minute of it, and I’m going to end with this: Dick Turpin wearing a mask. God bless you all, and see you on the other side.”

It’s unclear why Fury mentioned Turpin. This Englishman was an 18th century highway robber and horse thief.

The “Gypsy King” suffered two consecutive defeats to Usyk. He lost via split decision on May 18 and then lost via split decision. unanimous decision Both games will be played in Saudi Arabia on December 21st. Fury lost multiple heavyweight championships to Usyk initially.

Fury’s last win was a split decision victory over Francis Ngannou.

If that were the case for Fury, he would retire with a record of 34-2-1 and 24 knockouts. Usyk’s losses are the only two blemishes on his record. The draw was in 2018 against Deontay Wilder.

He previously announced his retirement before his 34th birthday in August 2022, and returned to boxing two months later.

Frank Warren, a boxing promoter who worked with Fury, told the BBC he had not spoken to Fury before his retirement.

“If that’s what he wants to do, that’s great. He’s done everything he can. Probably the best British heavyweight of his generation so far,” Warren told BBC radio. “Two world champions, two great fights with Usyk. He’s got a lot of money, he’s got his smarts, he’s got a lovely family.”
