Business leaders react to California wildfires: ‘heartbreaking’


Several business leaders have taken to social media to react to the wildfires raging in Southern California.

In a Wednesday night post on X, Tim Cook, CEO of Apple described the destruction of the flames that affected Los Angeles County as “heartbreaking.”

“Thank you to the incredible firefighters, first responders, and everyone else helping you in your heroic efforts,” he wrote, adding that Apple “will make a donation to support the victims and recovery efforts on the ground.”

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said Wednesday that he was “heartbroken.”

“Having seen first-hand the destruction that high-speed winds and fire can cause, my thoughts are with all those affected,” he added. “May peace and security be restored for all at this difficult time.”

In other X posts, Benioff also encouraged people to “join the effort to support” those affected by the fires, sharing an article detailing various aid organizations.

Bob Igerthe chief executive of the Walt Disney Company, said on Instagram on Wednesday that his “heart goes out to all those who have lost homes and businesses, and all whose lives have been affected, including thousands of Disney employees.” .

“I drove through Pacific Palisades today and witnessed first hand the devastation caused by the fires,” he said.

Five wildfires were burning in Los Angeles County Thursday morning.

Three of the wildfires — the Palisades Fire, the Eaton Fire and the Sunset Fire — remained 0 percent contained, according to CalFire. The Hurst and Lidia fires, meanwhile, have been contained by 10% and 40%, respectively.

CALIFORNIA FIRES: WHAT TO DO WHEN EVACUATING

Of the five, the Palisades fire has burned the most acres so far, affecting more than 17,200, according to CalFire. An early morning update on the Palisades fire reported that hundreds of buildings had been destroyed and about 13,300 were facing the threat of flames.

at least five people have died at Eaton’s fire.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said Wednesday evening that “more than 7,500 firefighters are working on the ground with local and federal partners to respond to the historic wildfires underway in California.”
