By 2024, sales of electric and hybrid vehicles will account for 20% of U.S. car sales, reaching a record high

DETROIT — Sales of all-electric and hybrid vehicles reached 20% of U.S. new car and truck sales for the first time last year, marking a landmark year for “green” vehicles but growing faster than many had expected Be slow.

Automotive data company Motor Intelligence reports that more than 3.2 million “electric” cars were sold last year, or 1.9 million hybrid vehicles (including plug-in models) and 1.3 million pure electric vehicles.

Data show that traditional cars with gasoline or diesel internal combustion engines still account for the majority of sales, but this has dropped to 79.8%, and Hyundai has fallen below 80% for the first time in history.

In terms of sales of pure electric vehicles, Tesla It continues to dominate, but Cox Automotive estimates its annual sales have declined, with its market share falling to around 49% from 55% in 2023. Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are expected to be the best-selling electric vehicles in 2024.
