Shakur Stevenson unveiled his three-fight favorites for 2025 today, with slight changes, and said he wants these fighters this year:
- Floyd Schofield: *Arranged
- Vasily Lomachenko
- Gervonta Davis
On February 22, WBC lightweight champion Stevenson (22 wins, 0 losses, 10 KOs) faced Schofield (18 wins, 0 losses, 12 KOs) in Riyadh. If Shakur wins that fight, it’s unclear who his second fight in 2025 will be. He had always said he wanted to fight William Zepeda, but he changed his tune and wanted to fight Vasily Lomachenko.

I don’t know why Shakur mentioned Lomachenko’s name other than to gain leverage. He’s made it clear he’s not interested in fighting runners, especially those who don’t have a fan base outside of his hometown of Newark. If Loma does fight again, it will likely be against Gervonta Davis, as that’s the biggest payday he could get. He’s not going to waste time on Shakur because Shakur isn’t attractive and won’t come to fight.

Shakur’s popularity is based on the villain roles he plays, but his performances are not interesting and never will be. All he has is old ones Mayweather’s style of fighting or not, Don’t take risks and win rounds with a small number of shots. Stevenson doesn’t throw many punches because he focuses on defense 90% of the time, throwing one punch and getting away.

If Shakur is willing to take risks in his career, he doesn’t need Tank Davis to give him a boost. Stevenson can fight a lot of fighters at 135 to 154 and make himself a star. It takes courage, talent and a willingness to get involved. Shakur is flawed in all three areas.
