The Coast Guard in Korea said they had found two tons of what they suspect was pure cocaine on the Norwegian ship called Mexico and stopped in Ecuador, Panami and China.

The surgery was launched after the South Korean authorities received the intelligence of US agencies – FBI and Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) – that the vessel wore hidden narcotics.

The Korean Coast Guard and the Korea Customs Service coordinated an extensive search surgery “consisting of a joint search team of 90 officers … along with two units of a drug -shaking dog,” said the Korea Coast Guard.

After the vessel was connected to the port of the eastern coast in South Korea, the team immediately boarded the ship and “discovered the hidden section behind the shipping engine room”.

“Preliminary terrain tests have been confirmed by substances as a suspicious cocaine,” the Coast Guard officer Korea told AFP.

“The subtraction is the largest in history, about five times higher than the previous record, which was 404 kilograms of methamphetamine,” said the Customs Service of Korea for AFP.

The estimated street value is $ 697 million, they added.

The authorities launched a joint investigative team to question the captain and crew of the vessels on origin and intended to destination for drugs, and the route was used to transport them.

South Korea has long ranked among countries with low drug use globally, thanks to its strict laws and strong social stigma.

Operation follows other major cocaine attacks on ships – and in open seas – around the world this year. Just last week, the Portuguese police said the police recently seized almost 6.5 tons of cocaine from a semi-resistant ship or a so-called “Narco Sub”, intercepted Azors while related to the Iberian Peninsula.

In February, divers in Poland discovered more than 220 pounds of cocaine at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. The same month, half-produded vessel filled over 5000 pounds of cocaine was intercepted from the Pacific coast of Colombia.
