With iOS 18Apple launched Apple Intelligencewhich includes an AI-powered feature for summarizing notifications. When you get a bunch of notifications from an app, the feature summarizes the content of all the notifications in a card that appears on the lock screen. You can dismiss the stack after you read the summary, or tap it to review individual notifications.
However, the segment is not always accurate. Sometimes, it results in fun resultsand other times it fails to properly summarize the content of the notices and includes visible errors. If you think notification summaries are confusing rather than useful, you can turn them off or customize them.
On iPhone/iPad
Head to Settings > Notifications and tap the Summarize Notifications tab. There are two options: You can turn off AI-powered notification summaries for all apps by togging the Summarize Notifications option at the top, or you can turn off the notifications on a per-app basis.
On the Mac
Click the Apple menu in the upper left corner and go to System Settings > Notifications. Click the Summarize Notifications tab, then turn off Summarize Notifications. Similar to iPhone/iPad settings options, you can turn off notification summaries for selected apps.
There is no way to turn off notification summaries for a specific app category, such as news, productivity, utility, shopping, travel, and financial.
Apple said in January that it would issue a software update to better reflect that notification summaries are generated by AI and there may be some errors.
